Competitors for the second rounds of the XII International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition have been selected


18 violinists will continue forward in the competition from the first rounds held 19–21 May, 2022 in Helsinki

The long-awaited 12th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition kicked-off in Helsinki with lively performances from the young contestants. 39 violinists from 14 countries attended the first rounds of the competition, which was originally scheduled for late 2020 and postponed to May this year due to the pandemic. 18 violinists from 12 countries were selected for the second rounds held 23–25 May, 2022.

In the second rounds competitors play solo works and with a pianist. The programme contains mandatory and volitional opuses as well as a composition by Magnus Lindberg, specially commissioned for the competition. Finalists will be announced at the end of the third day of the second rounds, 25 May, together with the awarding of the Sibelius family stipend.

The second rounds will take place in the Concert Hall of the R-building of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. The competition can also be followed live and on-demand on Yle Areena. The webcasts of the first rounds of the competition have already accumulated more than 650 000 views.
