Matilda Kärkkäinen

Matilda Kärkkäinen is known as a versatile pianist with artistic activities ranging from solo piano music to chamber music and lied music. She holds a position as chamber pianist in Sibelius Academy since 2015.

Ms. Kärkkäinen studied in Sibelius Academy with Marita Viitasalo and Erik T. Tawaststjerna. In 2017 she completed her artistic doctoral degree. During her master studies she did a study exchange period both in Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and in Edsberg Chamber Music Institute in Stockholm.

Ms. Kärkkäinen has been awarded the 3rd prize in the Finnish national piano competition in Jyväskylä in 2004, the 2nd prize in the Nyborg Nordic Piano Competition in 2004, as well as a special prize in the international Ciurlinios Competition in Lithuania in 2003. She has premiered many Finnish contemporary piano pieces, and also recorded most of them. Ms. Kärkkäinen performs regularly in Finnish music festivals and has performed widely also internationally.
